WHAT IS ROUNDUP?
RoundUp is the most used herbicide (weedkiller) in the world. This product is manufactured by Monsanto and has been used on our nation's crops since 1973. During 2015, Monsanto generated 4.76 billion dollars in sales from RoundUp products.
The primary RoundUp ingredient in question is Glyphosate. The chemical was officially added to California's list of chemicals known to cause cancer on July 7th, 2017. Various studies have linked RoundUp usage to non-Hodgkins lymphoma and other complications.
International Agency for Research on Cancer (2014)
Their study was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research & Public Health on April 23rd, 2014. The study evaluated 44 papers to see how 80 active ingredients in 21 different chemical classes impacted farmers' risk of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The study concluded that exposure to glyphosate results in twice as much risk of developing non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
FOOD & DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA)
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) resumes testing for glyphosate residue in food. Results will be compared to Maximum Residue Levels (MRL) to determine health safety. These MRLs were established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which has launched a probe investigating possible collusion between Monsanto and a former top EPA official.
The most significant complication associated with Mansanto's Roundup product and glyphosate is non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. This cancer starts in the white blood cells.
Studies have concluded that risk for developing non-Hodgkins lymphoma doubles for those exposed to Roundup. Those with agricultural exposure seem to experience the highest levels of exposure to Roundup and glyphosate chemicals, including farmers and landscapers.
